About us

Welcome!

Mount Vernon Baptist Church is first and foremost a family. God adopted each of us into His family, as the God’s Word encourages in Romans 8:15, “the Spirit you received brought about your adoption.” We want you to come see how good God is to His family, his children. We want you to consider joining in with our family in expression of worship to our Father, God. We enjoy God by digging deeply into His Word, the Bible, and growing in the gospel of Christ Jesus. We sing, preach, and pray the Word together each Sunday. I have had the privilege of being a part of this flock, as pastor, since 2001. Please, get a glimpse into our family by looking around our web site. And, as God leads, we look forward to hearing from you real soon!

In Christ,
Pastor Matthew Watson

Worship

Disciples of Jesus gathering together to celebrate our risen savior, Jesus Christ, has been central to our identity since the first church was formed.  We gather on Sunday @ 10:30 am to sing, pray, and hear God's Word preached.

Study

We know God through His revealed word, the Bible.  At MVBC we make much of God's word and seek to know it better both individually and as a community.  Our main time of community study is during our discipleship hour,
Sundays @ 9:15 am.

Community

We encourage believers to gather in each others home for prayer and fellowship on a regular basis.  The main way of connection with the community of believers at MVBC is through covenant church membership.  Through membership we partner
together in this life.

Hospitality

Hospitality in the New Testament seems to be less of a specific activity (e.g. "invite someone to your house for dinner") and more of a mindset of folding strangers into your life. That idea of hospitality is what lies behind much of the relational fabric at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. If this congregation becomes your church home, you'll likely discover that much of the ministry here falls into this simple category of hospitality. So what does that look like?

Stay Around After Services
One very simple way to express hospitality is to simply stay around after the conclusion of our morning service. Most Sundays there is some sort of potluck lunch in the Family Life Center. We want it to encourage you to stay around and talk, to speak to visitors and to people you don’t know, and to make initial connections with others in the church. It's part of how we're building a church that feels like the family of God.

Children's Ministry

You'll find MVBC to be a place of vibrancy and life.  Made so by all the children!  We believe the bible calls us to special care in raising up children in the faith.  We partner with and empower families to accomplish this important task.  There are age based bible studies during the discipleship hour and we aim to integrate children into every aspect of church life as soon as possible.  Children are an important part of our body.
